The Columbia Central High School varsity soccer team made a few position changes in the team’s district game against Onsted last Friday.
It definitely paid off.
CCHS earned a 3-0 win over the Wildcats in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 soccer district contest. The Golden Eagles earned their second win of the season and advanced to the district semifinal on Wednesday.
Columbia Central will face Clinton at Clinton High School at 4:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the district final Friday at Stockbridge.
“We made a few changes in player position that really seemed to pay off,” CCHS Coach Kendon Smith said. “We have struggled this season letting in goals and passing the ball.
“Friday saw each player do the best we have seen (all season).”
First-year player Trent Froreich scored a pair of goals and Jacob Walker added the final goal.
Ethan Stewart tallied two assists and Kaleb Pfaffinger added the other in the win.
Senior goalkeeper Quinton Meyerink made several saves in the contest.
